Call for Papers All NGOs in association with the DPI (Department of Public Information) at the United Nations or ECOSOC are invited to submit proposals for "action chapters" in a Report to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on how to solve the problem of climate change. NGOs need not be based on New York or Europe. The Editorial Working Group encourages NGOs from all regions of the world to use the power of the internet to collaborate. Anyone from civil society can participate, though through one of the associated NGOs. Each chapter is be coordinated by a working group of NGOs that will identify a particular issue of importance to NGOs threatened by climate change. E.G., Water: explain why that is important and then propose solutions and actions the UN, governments and civil society at large should take to solve the problem. The Editors would like each Working Group to also foster meetings and internet discussions and become permanent forums for fostering NGO solutions to the climate change problem even after the report is given the Secretary-General -- linking the North and the South. BACKGROUND AND WHY CIVIL SOCIETY MATTERS A copy of the Declaration is attached and is being translated into different languages. Chapters in the Report are managed by NGO Working Groups as follows:.
The Editorial Working group is excited by this opportunity to bring creative, practical solutions and recommendations to the attention of the Secretary-General and the world at large. Science will be a foundation; but climate change is not just about technology, a problem to resolved by scientists. This is also a political and cultural issue threatening the very fabric of society and the future of all generations -- and it requires all of us in the NGO community to play a part. Rules on the selection of topics, deadlines and management of Chapter Working Groups are found on the report website at www.climatecaucus.net.
